I have been using the same three names online since about mid-1997. The majority of the time using PunkRockKarl or PRK Exclusively. Kingsmob77 is a relatively newernome de plume.
Kingsmob77 is my most recent user name. I got the idea for the nick whilst reading Please Kill Me: The Uncensored Oral History of Punk by Punk Legend, Legs Mc Neil. In th book, McNeil describes some of the movements in art and politics that pre-dated but contributed to punks development. There was quite a bit of information on the London-basedKing Mob movement. Based upon and building from Situationism, infusing the art movement with radical proletarian politics and aggressive, black humor. Many of the early pioneers of London Punk Rock, including a young Malcolm McLaren and the amazing Vivienne Westwood -- BOTH key platers in the King Mob scene.
Because of the influence on early Punk and the antagonistic nature of the movement, I felt it described me to a fucking-T. So I nicked it for my own.
PunkRockKarl is the oldest of all monikers applied to yours truly. The origin of this nickname is far more pragmatic than Kingsmob77. About 15 years ago I was living in New Paltz, NY. "No Pulse" has a large number of dirty, angry young lay-abouts of which I was known to associate. Amongst the street kinds there were several Karls known to hang about. This made it difficult to differentiate between the different Karls in conversation (especially when drunk, high or both). So eventually, conversations stated to begin as such:
Hey man, have you seen Karl?
Which Karl?
Punk Rock Karl.
Oh yeah. He's down by the river scamming on a couple of chibbles
Cool thanks
Short form of PunkRockKarl you frickin' moron.
