If you aren’t on of my Northport High School Choir peeps, this post has very little meaning.  If you are, read on.

In light of the upcoming NHS Winter Concert, the resurrected alumni performance and the associated radical spliter group of disgrunted Alumni and thier rennage performance, I thought it might be nice to make recordings of the traditionals available for listening or download.  If you are going to attend the concert, use them to practice.  If you aren’t, then listen to them and be there is spirit.

All of the following are taken from various recordings during my time in the Choir. (1987-1990)

A Mighty Fortress Is Our God

Danny Boy

Lord of the Dance

When Rooks Fly Homeward

I think the following was made a traditional during my sophomore year (1987-1988).

Ride On, King Jesus

Choir Fags unite!

Oh yeah, to play the files, click the title. Then use the playback pop-up to play, pause or mute the playback. To download to you hard drive; right click and select, “save as”.

I’m not sure how you Apple weirdos do this. I think you click and hold or something equally unintuitive. I have no idea how to use a Mac as I much prefer a computer to a candy-colored toy.

Cool. Thanks Ellen. Also, understand that I actually have nothing against the Mac. I just say these things to annoy my wife. :-)

    Hi Karl,

I don’t know if you remember me, but I’m Lore’s twin sister (you went to prom with her right?).

Anyway, thanks for making these recording’s available!!!! Lore had a tape of her own, but I’m not sure what happened to it.

My husband Mike tells me you guys were childhood freinds. he has some great pictures!

    Anyway, thanks again!

Karl – thanks so much for posting this … it has been nearly 20 years since I last sang, much less thought of these songs – but I was surprised at just how easy it was to pick out my alto part and let the words flow. All those years of practice, I guess it’s something that will stay with me always. Thanks for the trip back in time. What a strange, wild trip it’s been! Kate

The Northport High School Select Choir had a list of their “traditionals” as O, Come, O, Come Emmanuel, A Mighty fortress is our God, Lord Of The Dance, Wheen Rooks Fly Homeward, The Three About Jesus- 1. Every time I think about Jesus 2 Give Me Jesus 3 Ride on King Jesus 1975-1979.

  • PRKarl Said on December 21st, 2009 at 4:44 pm:

Actually, The Three About Jesus we not (at least by the time I entered the group) part of the traditionals. In my sophomore year we added Ride On, King Jesus to the traditionals but not the other sections of “The Three”

However, I do have a wonderful recording of the 1976 group performing “The Three About Jesus”, should you like a copy.

Oh yeah – I didn’t add O Come, O Come Emmanuel, mainly because I didn’t have it readily available and wanted to make the recordings available to people as quickly as possible.
